Theft Of Cars Under Investigation

Local law enforcement officials were asked to investigate recently when two different individuals discovered their cars had been stolen.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were called to 203 High Avenue in Ethridge on Friday. The property owner reported that he was last at the address on June 2.

When he returned today, he said he discovered that in his absence, someone had stolen a blue, four-door, 1967 Chevrolet Impala and the 16 foot trailer on which it was sitting.

The property owner reported that numerous items had been stolen from his garage, including various car and engine parts, tools, and an engine hoist. Altogether he estimated his loss to be $8,200.

A neighbor told deputies that she had noticed an older model red truck, possibly bearing the name of a salvage company, at the house. She said she had assumed it was the property owner.

On Saturday deputies were called to 4 Buie Road in Summertown. The property owner reported a white, two-door, 1957 Chevrolet Belair had been stolen during the previous week. She estimated the car to be worth $5,000.

A neighbor reported seeing three men in a roll-back wrecker drive away with the car, but was unaware that they did not have permission to do so.

Investigation into both crimes is currently continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
